CELEBRATING HISTORY: THE BIG FIFTY
27th January 2008
In the short history of Kings AFC, there are two players who have played an incredible part in the club’s success. The same two players this month reached two fantastic mile stones with Nathan Clements the first player to hit 50 goals for Kings and Marcus Tomlin being the first player to make his 50th appearance for the club.
These wonderful landmarks are no easy feats, and it is a credit to the team and themselves that they have achieved them so quickly.
Marcus, a skilful winger has rarely missed a training session let alone a match and he has come to epitomise what Kings AFC are all about, playing with enthusiasm, commitment and attacking flair. In those appearances he has weighed in with his fair share of goals too scoring on 30 occasions. Marcus also holds a further two joint Kings AFC records, that of most man of the match awards and less positively that of worst discipline with three yellow cards.
Nathan has amassed his incredible tally (50) from just 23 appearances, 2 of which were from the substitutes bench. It’s very rare to stumble across a player with such an acute eye for goal. So much so that on two occasions he has hit the back of the net 5 times in a single game. Furthermore, there have only been 3 matches when Clements has played and failed to score. Absolutely sensational.
Many, many congratulations to both of you. As a team we’re delighted to play alongside you both and look forward to many more appearances and goals in the red and white colours of Kings AFC.
In a week of change, and 4 new players signing on for Kings, two special mentions are also applicable. Congratulations to Kieran Muckle who made his Kings AFC debut and became the youngest ever player in the clubs history at 16 years and 48 days beating Danny Cain's 2006 appearance at 16 years and 77 days.
Also, a huge thank you and goodbye to Matt Fordham. Matt has been heavily involved with the club since its conception and has played a superbly well and consistently at right back and the on occasion in the centre of the defence. Matt has decided to retire at the age of 38 to spend more time with his family after 36 appearances for Kings, although he has promised to play on for Kings this season in the event of an emergency. Who will ever forget Matt’s marauding runs down the right flank and infamous booking having sarcastically clapped the referee? Mate, you’ll be sorely missed by everyone at the club and we hope you’ll join us for the Battle of the Titans fixtures.
