Cains Corinthians Vs Footlong Sub
Whites 2 (Morgan, Plested) VS 1 Reds (Mayes)

With the much anticipated end of season Titans game upon us, confidence was high in both camps. With Cain favouring a more solid defence, Footer went for a more attacking line up including Hazelwood & J Clements. The game also gave the opportunity to some of the Clapham Colts players that play at the same ground.

The game started erratically with the wind coming down hill giving Cains team the advantage, but the quality of the opening exchanges was poor. The first real attack came down Cains left flank with Green running onto the ball and cutting back to Morgan who drove the shot on target, but was blocked by Craddock – who was playing at Centre Back!

Footers Army began to get into the game with the long ball to Hazelwood almost paid off but the striker drove his shot wide. With Footer playing 4 at the back and Cain effectively only playing 1 up front, Green was pushed up as a second striker. The back four of Stelling, Wilson, Craddock and Colts player Kingsley Kerr were dominant in the air, although good interplay between Oli, Morgan & Minty exposed some gaps during the opening half.

Footers team though began to control the game, Josh Clements was playing deeper than he usually would was effective when on the ball. Andy Mayes who was the star player in the opening half jinked past 3 of Cains team and released the ball to Clements. On the left wing, Clements controlled the ball and passed it back to Mayes who struck the ball sweetly and was happy to see the ball nestle in the back of the net. 1 – 0

Footers team were firmly in control, with midfield orchestrating how the game went, Bolton & Lee-Prior showing some neat touches. However with Samson in goal and the impressive Rich Smith playing at Centre Back, the whites looked a difficult team to break down. Nonetheless, Footers team pressed on and won a corner in the closing stages of the first half, the ball was swung over and was missed by everyone when Wilson with his moment of glory, strectched to flick the ball over the last defender and made a chance for himself only to power over when he had a simple chance to make the score 2- 0! Unfortunately for the reds, Wilson's air shot came on his weaker left foot when it looked easier to score!

Cains team mounted an attack with Lee Gregory working down the left wing and winning a throw in. Green reacted quickest and threw the ball to the on rushing Morgan who controlled the ball on his chest in the penalty area and hit a left footed drive that was block by the on rushing Barber. The ball bounced back to Morgan who from an acute angle curled the ball in via a mighty deflection off Craddock. 1 – 1

Although undeserved, the equaliser came just before half time and was the motivator that should have spurred Cains team onwards.

HALF TIME

With Footlongs Subs now having the wind behind them, the game was now truly on. The reds dominated the opening minutes, A Mayes was carrying the ball forward ghosting past players, Clements & Hazelwood were dangerous on the attack with both players having shots that sailed wide & over. Footer had a free kick about 30 yards out which he hit a few yards over (Later he actually confirmed this was meant to go into the pickle barrel, was not an actual shot!)

Hazelwood picked the ball up on the right flank jinxed his way into the penalty area and crossed for Barber to finish from 1 yard. BUT again the reds player completely missed the ball and the chance went begging. 2 contenders for miss of the season in the space of 10 minutes! With the reds wasting chance after chance, the whites began to think this could be their day.

With several players suffering from the previous nights drinking and Danny Cain suffering a hangover from his cider lolly, the whites changed it about a bit with Davies coming in at right back and Cain playing himself up front. Unfortunately this didn’t stop the constant attack from the reds. With Wilson & Stelling playing some quality balls forward it was only a matter of time before the reds crafted another chance.

This one was hoofed forward for Hazelwood to run onto and he skilfully lobbed the on rushing Kirby to score…….with the reds celebrating, the ref blew his whistle for OFFSIDE! Jubilation for half of the Kings players anyway.

With Green & Oli back in the fold, Kings were more effective going forward. Loosemore who had been a rock all game at the back, now began to bring the ball forward and linked well with Morgan from throw ins. On a rare attack, a quick throw in by Loosemore to Morgan who released Green created a good opening for Oli who slipped as he hit the ball.

The half began to fizzle out and although the reds dominated in midfield, the whites defence looked an accomplished outfit.

Extra Time was agreed with 5 minutes each way and then penalties. The reds had a few opportunities but their finishing in truth was wasteful and poor by their usually standards. Then Loosemore sent a ball for Oli to run onto, Footer & Kerr let the ball bounce and Oli pounced onto the ball and calmly dispatched pass Craddock. 2 – 1

With the reds now facing defeat they threw everyone forward and this gave Loosemore a chance to run at his opposite number. Gliding past 2 defenders, he found himself in the box which he unleashed a fierce then Craddock managed to palm onto the bar. Morgan then challenged Kerr, managed to get the ball onto his left foot and shot straight at Craddock.

FINAL WHISTLE

An undeserved victory for the whites, but if you don’t finish your chances you will get punished.

Man of the Match: TBC

Back in the goals with a strong line up, Kings despatched of Shillington with relative ease. Despite going behind after a freak bobble Kings soon stamped their authority on the visitors and were a comfortable 3-1 up at half time. Continued pressure and the persistent threat of Kings attacking players tied the Shillington defence in knots. After a poor run over Christmas, Kings will be hoping this turns the tide again for the season.

Kings made it 6 games unbeaten with a comfortable win against bottom of the table Shillington. Only a handful of 'dodgy' offside decisions on both sides gave the game any real interest. Kings however, will be concerned about the number of goals they are conceeding against lower league opposition as they aim to keep up with the teams at the top of the league.

Kings completed an unbeaten November with a draw against Kempston Royals. It was a disappointing end to a fixture Kings dominated without finding an end product to much endevour. Twice leading with good goals in each half from Mayes and Hazelwood, but on both occasions pegged back quickly as a sloppy defensive performance seems to be Kings undoing again.

Bookings: Cain (SENT OFF)
Man of the Match: Mayes

Kings AFC progressed into the 3rd round of the Beds County cup with a comfortable victory against Elstow. It was just desserts for Kings who avenged their poor performance against the Abbey earlier in the season. It could have been double figures, but for some sloppy Kings finishing and a superb performance from the Elstow keeper, but Minty will still be smiling having a clean sheet and 4 good goals, including a blinding Mike Whelan volley. The only down side being a second sending off in two game for Kings, as two-goal captain Danny Cain received two bookings for late challenges.

KEMPSTON ROYALS 1-7 KINGS AFC

In a comfortable victory for Kings, the big stand out moment amoungst seven different goal scorers was Kings AFCs first ever sending off in 3 and a half seasons. Josh Clements, the man making the headlines for the wrong reasons, but still finding himself on the score sheet and sharing a joint man of the match the centre half Sansom.

Kings AFC's run came to an abrupt end with a thumping defeat at the hands of Marston. 3-0 down within 20 minutes the game looked dead and buried with debutant Jonny Duggan having a torrid time just one day after his 18th birthday. A spirited fightback in both the first and second half was not enough to earn an unlikely point. Next up... Kempston Royals on October 31st...

Half time score: 0-1

Another good performance made it 4 wins on the bounce for Kings as they put Marabese Ceramics to the sword. Two goals at the start of each half from Rowan Hazelwood did the damage and will have boosted the strikers confidence ahead of the tough challenges ahead. Assured performances across the back line and pressure all over the pitch also secured a second clean sheet in a row for the in form side.

KINGS AFC 4-0 SHEFFORD TOWN

Half time score: 1-0
Kings AFC Scorers: Greene, Plested (2), J.Clements
Bookings: None
Man of the Match: Loosemore & Mayes

An excellent performance made it three consecutive wins for Kings. Against a strong first half wind it was Josh Clements who put Kings ahead at the break before a more comfortable second period was ensured with two excellent goals from Oli Plested and a thrid of the season for Chris Greene. Both Plested goals have to be contenders for goal of the season, the first was a decent finish from a seven man passing movement right the way through the Kings side, and the second a stunning volley powered past the keeper from the edge of the box. It was also nice to keep a first clean sheet in seven games to boot!

In this historic game where Lee Morgan became the first player in Kings AFC history to play 100 games, Kings eased through into teh next round of the Beds County Cup. Lee capped the occasion with two goals and the man of the match award in a game which could have seen a larger victory margin. Lets hope that Kings can maintain this winning streak into the league.

Kings AFC Scorers: Plested (3 - 1pen), Hazelwood, Greene
Bookings: Sansom
Man of the Match: Plested

A battling performance was just what the doctor ordered for Kings who were desperate for a confidence boosting victory. Having gone 1-0 down, Kings fought back with some good team play, hard tackles and fighting spirit. Sansom made a superb rare appearance on the field as a centre back, Minty and Greene worked hard in the centre, and Hazelwood scored a superb shot from distance after the keeper was left stranded. It was left winger Oli Plested who stole the show and the man of the match award though with three goals and excellent movement, passing and all round attacking play.

Man of the Match: Curran

Kings will be gutted to have not come away from this game with anything. Two individual errors, and a goal that could have been adjugded offisde or disallowed for a foul, cost them the game. It could well have been wrapped up much earlier if Kings had taken advantage of their possession and better play throughout. It leaves them three games in without a single point and desperate for a striker to put the final touches on some decent football.

A convincing defeat for Kings on a wet, cold, dark and miserable night against new side Bedford Hatters. 3-0 down within the first 25 minutes, despite some patchy moments of decent football the title favourites outplayed Kings all over the pitch. Tomlin gave Kings hope with ten minutes to go by making it 3-1 before the Hatters turned the screw with some more crisp and direct play.

A disappointing start to the season saw Kings go down at the hands of Brache. In an open game when both sides hit the woodwork and had numerous chances to score, it was the visitors who took their opportunities at key moments to dent Kings early season hopes.

August 2009

FRIENDLY:

Kings AFC 1 Arseley Social Galacticos 7. A disappointing second half spell saw an experimental Kings side get thumped in their final warm up game of pre-season. After a competitive first half performance which saw the Galacticos 1-nil up after a disputed goal, Kings could only reply from the penalty spot (Plested) to the oppositions 6! A rout that Kings won't want repeated next week.

August 2009

FRIENDLY:

Kings AFC 6 Kempston Hammers Sports 4. Despite the Hammers being a division above Kings, it was the boys from Clapham who came out on top in an entertaining friendly. A brace from both Marcus Tomlin and Oli Plested, along with goals from Michael Whelan and a superb strike from debutant Saul Cuttel gave Kings victory.

August 2009

FRIENDLY:

Stewartby Village 0 Kings AFC 3. Goals from newboy Manuel and two from Chris Greene.
